Dealing with Peer Review

Turn peer review from “daunting and horrible” into a clear, workable process.

If you’re an academic author, you probably know the mix of dread, frustration, and self-doubt that can come with peer reviews. You open the email, skim the comments, and suddenly your article, your ideas, and sometimes even your abilities feel under attack.

This mini-workshop is designed to change that.

In about 30 minutes, you’ll learn a simple, structured way to handle peer reviews so you can stay grounded, protect your confidence, and actually use feedback to strengthen your work.

In this workshop, you’ll learn:

  • Two key voices inside the academic system: why some people defend peer review, why others criticize it, and what the fundamental flaws are in how peer review is often practiced today.
  • Differences between reviews on articles and reviews on book manuscripts
  • The number one mistake most academic authors make: a common reaction that makes reviews feel more painful and less useful, and how to avoid it.
  • How to process a review emotionally and intellectually: a way to acknowledge and regulate your emotional response so you can move from “this is horrible” to “this is information I can work with.”
  • How to extract the constructive critique from any review: a practical way to sort through comments, identify what’s useful, and decide what to respond to and what to let go.
  • A step-by-step plan from first reading to resubmission: a clear sequence you can follow every time, from opening the review, to organizing the feedback, to drafting your response and resubmitting your article.

This is for you if:

  • You feel anxious, discouraged, or overwhelmed when you receive peer reviews
  • You delay opening review emails because you’re bracing for the worst
  • You struggle to separate useful feedback from unhelpful or unfair comments
  • You want a calm, repeatable process you can use for every future review

By the end of this workshop, you won’t just “survive” peer review. You’ll have a grounded, repeatable way to engage with it so your work gets better, your responses are professional and clear, and your confidence doesn’t get derailed every time a new review comes in.

Format and access:

  • Approximately 30 minutes of focused training
  • Immediate, on-demand access
  • Watch at your own pace and return to it whenever you get a new review

If you’re ready to replace dread with a clear plan, this workshop is for you.
